Some events needed to be told, but I could not care less about the days of nothing but riding. ![]() The author felt the need to discuss every event during th journey to the capital in painful detail. The second issue is how long everything takes. This would not be so frustrating, except that early in the book, Kael clearly does magic, but that is never again addressed. Kael (and so the reader) is given crumbs of information, but rather than force the issue and get answers, Kael just drops it and moves on. ![]() ![]() At the same time, there is so much that the author left out. While those stories are very helpful to the reader in understanding, they take away from continuing the plot. The first is that the author creates the world and its history by telling long stories. The characters are somewhat one-dimensional, but that may be fixed in later books. The author has created a world that feels very alive. There is a lot of potential in this book.
